Tips for Dry Eye in Cold Weather
Share
According to the National Eye Institute, nearly five million Americans aged 50 years and older are estimated to have a condition known as dry eye. During the cold winter months, the condition can become even more aggravated. In addition to taking a dry eye supplement, there are other ways to provide comfort this season.
- Use a humidifier - While your house is nice and toasty, the increased heat will make the air dryer. Using a humidifier will help add moisture to the air and provide some relief to your dry eyes and skin.
- Get Enough Sleep - Your body uses sleep to recharge, especially your eyes. Getting at least 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night allows your eyes to rest and naturally hydrate using your body's own tears.
- Stay Hydrated - Drinking enough water helps your body function as it was meant to. Whether it is a hot cup of tea or cold ice water, it is believed by most that your body needs at least eight 8oz glasses every day. This is equivalent to half of a gallon of water.
- Wear sunglasses - Wearing eye protection is just as important during the Winter as it is during the Summer. If you live in a colder state, proper sunglasses are even more important due to the reflective nature of snow. Your sunglasses will also protect your eyes from winds and other elements while outside.
Another excellent way to provide comfort for your dry eyes is to use a supplement with Omega-3's, such as Focus Relief Plus®.
